Free Workshops! New for the 2006 IMAGIN Conference! A 1/2 day workshop will be included in your conference registration this year! The workshops are first come, first served, so register early! Golf Anyone? This year's IMAGIN conference golf outing will be on the beautiful Spruce Run golf course at the Grand Traverse Resort. It will be an 18 hole scramble and will include a riding cart and dinner afterward. It will be a shotgun start at 1:30 on Sunday April 30th. You can sign yourself up or bring your whole foursome! Participants will receive special discounts to play the 'Wolverine' or the challenging 'Bear' course at a different time. Macomb County Community Street Atlas Series The Geographic Information Services (GIS) division of the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development has recently announced it's county wide street atlas. This series of fifteen map books has been compiled from street data contained within the Macomb County Street Name/E911 Address GIS map layer. Tight budget? Free Training! ESRI provides a number of free web based training modules and free online seminars. The free, self paced training modules include "Editing in ArcGIS 9: Tips and Tricks", "Exploring the VBA Environment", "Making Better Map Layouts with ArcGIS" and many others. The next live web training seminar is "Introduction to ArcGIS Schematics" on March 23rd. See the ESRI training web site at http://campus.esri.com/ for more details.
2005 Southeast Michigan Regional Orthoimagery Flight Update - Over the past few years, SEMCOG has worked with a number of partners to acquire orthoimagery for the Southeast Michigan region. The partners include Livingston County, Macomb County, Monroe County, Oakland County, St. Clair County, Washtenaw County, Wayne County, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, the State of Michigan, and the United States Geological Survey.
The imagery was acquired in spring, 2005, and is currently being quality control checked by the County partners. There are a number of products that will be available from this flight. These include 6-inch pixel resolution imagery, 1-foot pixel resolution imagery, and 2-foot pixel resolution imagery.

The Jim Living Scholarship Award! - The IMAGIN Professional Recognition Committee is seeking nominations for the 2006 Jim Living Scholarship Award. The $500 Jim Living Scholarship, sponsored by Woolpert, LLP, recognizes an outstanding student in Geographic Information / Geospatial Sciences. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be recognized at the IMAGIN Annual Conference, and to assist in the funding of their college career.
Interested students should submit their applications by March 31, 2006 . All students in a degree program in a Michigan college or university are eligible to apply. Nominations will be evaluated on the basis of academic achievement and participation in the IMAGIN organization.

Each year, several individuals are recognized for their contributions to the field of GIS at the IMAGIN conference. State of Michigan Imagery Grant Partnership Opportunity
The purpose of the Grant Partnership is to enable the State of Michigan (SOM) to purchase rights to Orthoimages. The SOM will use the original products INTERNALLY among all SOM State Agencies and their contractors for the duration of a project. SOM needs imagery that is leaf-off and at least 2-foot pixel or better. It can be either black and white or natural color. Phase 1 Grant Period: 2005-2009 (Application Deadline 07/1/2008).

IMAGIN has teamed up with Remote Sensing & GIS Research and Outreach Services at Michigan State University to offer IMAGIN members a 10% discount on all RS&GIS sponsored workshops. This offer is in effect until September 30, 2006. As an IMAGIN member, you could save $5 - $75 per workshop, depending on the duration/format of the course.

Web Mapping Site of the Month
In 2002, The Charter Township of Waterford, Michigan hired Plansight, LLC to assist in the development of their interactive web site. Their vision was simple, query by address or parcel id and retrieve assessing, zoning, voting and school information for a particular location.
