| Michigan Snowmobile Trails Mapped Using GPS - The State of Michigan's Department of Natural Resources recently completed a project to map Michigan's numerous snowmobile trails. The resulting high quality maps display the routes of over 6,500 miles of groomed trails throughout the state. | "Driving Detroit", The Detroit Free Press Drives Detroit's 2,100 Streets - The Detroit Free Press captured a dramatic snapshot of the City of Detroit in summer 2007. Numerous employees drove the city streets, mapped the condition of structures, and gained insights on the inner workings of Detroit's myriad neighborhoods. | Census Atlas of the United State Available Online - The first US Census Bureau map atlas in over 80 years was recently unveiled online for downloading. The atlas maps and charts the voluminous data sets found within the Census 2000 files and provide interpretive information on key statistics. | IMAGIN Student Paper Competition Recently Held at Schoolcraft College in Livonia | ||||
| The 2008 IMAGIN Poster & Paper Competition was a success this year with eight undergraduate posters on display and four graduate paper competitors. For the second year in a row, the competition, which took place on Thursday, January 24, was held at Schoolcraft College in Livonia Michigan. | ||||
| Congratulations to our Undergraduate Poster and Graduate Paper Competition Winners Erika Espeland and Maxwell Field, both of Central Michigan University. Erika's poster was entitled “3D Mapping for the Cloud Forest in Tropical Areas.” Maxwell Field presented his paper, “Common Loon Habitat Modeling in Northern Lower Michigan Using Binary Logistic Regression.” | ||||

| Microsoft Expands 3D Building Renderings to Several Michigan Cities - Expanding their offerings of 3D buildings for Virtual Earth, Microsoft recently added the cities of Flint, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Ann Arbor. The building footprints include many of the multi-story buildings in the cities with near photo-realistic rendering using Pictometry's bird's-eye imagery. In order to view the buildings, you must first install Microsoft's free Virtual Earth software. Please visit VirtualEarth.com to view the new 3D buildings. | ||||

| Bridge Tracker Application Details Bridge Structure Status Across the United States - Concerned about the structural integrity of the bridge you're about to drive across on the highway? Would you like to know that last time it was inspected and the results? If so, head over to MSNBC and check out their Bridge Tracker mash-up. Bridge Tracker allows users to enter a route and automatically display the bridges traversed on the route, their structural condition, and relevant inspection data. The dataset includes bridge data for the State of Michigan and the majority of the United States. | ||||

| Web Mapping Site of the Month | ||||
| Map Michigan - Map Michigan, maintained by the State of Michigan's Center for Geographic Information, is a comprehensive mapping application covering all of Michigan. Visitors to the site can plan routes and find locations throughout the state, including common points of interest such as boat launches, waterfalls, and schools. The site also allows users to save previously viewed maps if required. Data available in the application include streets, aerial photography, topography, elevation, and land cover. | ||||
