2007 IMAGIN Conference Preparations in Full Swing - There is a great line up of
speakers for this year's conference. There will be 4 hands-on workshops to be held at
the Western Michigan University GIS lab with ArcGIS loaded on each computer! This is
a great chance to learn valuable information and network with your peers to get the

Google Adds 'MyMaps' to Web Site - To make it even easier to create
your mapping web sites, Google has added a 'MyMaps' section to their web site to allow you
to add point, line and polygon data to a map and then share that map publically
(searchable) or keep it unlisted. For more information, click the 'My Maps' link at:

Let Your Voice be Heard to Help Set the Course for GIS in Michigan - Wednesday
morning at the 2007 IMAGIN Conference will feature a presentation by Scott Oppmann
and Jeroen Wagendorp, co-chairs of the newly formed "Michigan Statewide GIS Steering
Group" and they will facilitate a lively discussion on Michigan's GIS Vision and
opportunities for future collaborative efforts. Don't miss this opportunity to
provide feedback and learn more about GIS across the State!

Great Speaker Line Up - This years conference will include a great lineup
of keynote and guest speakers:
- Monday morning: Rick Toliver, who spent more than 30 years in the defense industry, will
explore the next 20 to 50 years for location-based information and
conclude with a vision of the future.
- Monday lunch: Stu Davis, who works for the State of Ohio and is President of the National
States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC), will talk about NSGIC and other GIS initiatives.
- Tuesday morning: Bill Johnson works for the State of New York and will provide an overview
of how statewide GIS coordination has evolved in the State of New York emphasizing building
relationships in a coordinated approach.
- Tuesday dinner: Eric Swanson, Director of the Michigan Center for Geographic Information,
will speak on State of Michigan GIS efforts.
- Wednesday morning: Jill Saligoe-Simmel, who works in Indiana, will speak about "Imagery for the Nation", a
collaborative project of NSGIC, USGS & US Department of Agriculture that provides a stable
aerial imaging program for the nation.

IMAGIN Annual Meeting - This year's annual IMAGIN Membership Meeting will be held
Tuesday at 4:00-4:30 during the conference. The IMAGIN board will provide a brief report
on the organizations activities over the last year and a discussion about plans for the
upcoming year. Membership input will be welcomed. Please join us as we kick off a new year.

State of Michigan releases final November 2006 election data - The Michigan
Secretary of State has released final numbers for the November 2006 general election.
The data is downloadable in tab-delimited format for joining to existing county and

State of Michigan Imagery Grant Partnership - The State of Michigan seeks
to partner with local governmental entities to aquire high quality imagery for
State of Michigan use. There has been recent updates to this program so you
may find new information if you have not seen this web site recently. For more

State of Michigan Upcoming Attractions! - There are many initiatiatives underway
in Michigan at the State level. Many GIS initiatives are done by or coordinated with the Michigan Center for Geographic
Information (CGI). The following items are just a highlight of all the GIS activity taking
place at the state level. If you have questions about these or other inititives

April 2007 - Environmental Mapper (DEQ) - This application is to provide the public
with internet access to frequently requested underground storage tank and brown field
information and maps. In addition to serving the public, this application will also
provide DEQ staff with the ability to query and display location and attribute
information pertaining to underground storage tanks and brown fields. You can view the

April 2007 - Detroit Traffic (MDOT) - Detroit Traffic will be a web
service that displays real-time traffic speeds (as line segments) from a network
of sensors, traffic incidents (as points) and video camera locations (as points)
maintained by the MDOT-MI Intelligent Transportation System for metro Detroit
and transferred to CGI via xml document or Oracle DB query. An application
interface is written in java-script that calls the web service and provides
users with the ability to pan zoom and identify incidents and cameras. The map
will provide web users with an easy to map view status of traffic conditions
in the Detroit Metro area.

May 2007 - Michigan Surface Water Information (DNR/DEQ) - The MiSWIMS application
is an interactive map-based system that would allow managers, technical staff, and
the public to view information about Michigan lakes and streams in a user-friendly
format. Information from the DEQ Water Bureau’s Water Quality Monitoring Program
and multiple DNR Fisheries and Wildlife databases will be included in the
application. The specific objective is to provide information to the public as well
as DNR and DEQ staff about individual lakes and streams. This system will support
ecosystem management, lake management plans, and DEQ permitting. Having such
information readily accessible will also be useful to State biologists and analysts.

May 2007 - Wildland Fire Application (DNR) - The Wildland Fire application is to
provide quick access, via the web, to needed map and GIS information for the MDNR
FMFM Fire officers, and Division offices across the State. This application will
also provide an immediate planning tool during wildland fire response emergency
situations giving fire managers the ability to reach critical decisions faster and
to better anticipate fire behavior. This system will also be utilized by our
wildland fire cooperators, including USFS, local fire departments and dispatch
centers. The project will assist the DNR in meeting the commitment to protect
and manage the State’s natural resources.

May 2007 - Land Bank Fast Track Authority / Land Information Mgmt System (DLEG) -
The MLBFTA was created under Public Act 258 of 2003 with the mission of returning
blighted tax reverted properties to productive and economically viable use. The
LIMS application is designed to assist the MLBFTA staff in performing their
day-to-day business operations.

June 2007 - Michigan Geographic Framework Ver 7 Release (DIT / CGI - Enterprise) -
The annual release of the Michigan Geographic Framework (MGF), Version 7, will take place in June.
|

New E-News Theme! - In addition to our permanent 'GIS in Michigan'
coverage, we will begin having an additional theme for each monthly issue.
This theme will not limit the E-News articles to only this theme,
but rather it will provide an additional focus for some of the articles.
