Welcome to the first issue of IMAGIN's E-News!
This is a free electronic newsletter available to anyone interested in GIS in Michigan. The E-News will be published approximately once a month.

The initial mailing list for recipients of the IMAGIN E-News is IMAGIN members, but please feel free to forward this to anyone you think would be interested, whether or not they are an IMAGIN member. Subscribe/unsubscribe directions will always be near the bottom of the E-News message.

IMAGIN Leadership Opportunity!!

The Nominating/Governance Committee is looking for candidates to serve on the IMAGIN Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity for members to participate in the leadership of IMAGIN and to set its course for the future. You may nominate yourself or someone else that you believe has leadership qualities. Please submit a few paragraphs listing qualifications, background, and any other information you would like posted in the candidate write-up.

The Call is out! Don’t miss this professional opportunity to submit your entries and nominations for IMAGIN Awards
Every year, several individuals are recognized for their contributions to the field of GIS at the IMAGIN conference. Nominations are requested for the following awards to be presented at the 2006 Conference:
  • The Jim Living Geospatial Achievement Award
  • The Jim Living Scholarship
  • The GIS for Everyone Award
  • GIS Education and Outreach Award
Criteria and submittal information is located on the IMAGIN website: http://www.imagin.org/awards/. All nominations must be submitted to the IMAGIN office by March 31, 2006.
State of Michigan Imagery Grant Partnership Opportunity
The purpose of the Grant Partnership is to enable the State of Michigan (SOM) to purchase rights to Orthoimages. The SOM will use the original products INTERNALLY among all SOM State Agencies and their contractors for the duration of a project. SOM needs imagery that is leaf-off and at least 2-foot pixel or better. It can be either black and white or natural color. Phase 1 Grant Period: 2005-2009 (Application Deadline 07/1/2008).

Michigan Geographic Framework (MGF) Version 5a, Now Available
Michigan Geographic Framework Version 5a shapefiles are now available for download from the Michigan Geographic Data Library.
Training Discounts For IMAGIN Members!
IMAGIN has teamed up with Remote Sensing & GIS Research and Outreach Services at Michigan State University to offer IMAGIN members a 10% discount on all RS&GIS sponsored workshops. This offer is in effect until September 30, 2006. As an IMAGIN member, you could save $5 - $75 per workshop, depending on the duration/format of the course.

    City of Portage - The City of Portage contracted with Plansight, LLC. to develop a Web Mapping application using CivXplorer Online! and ArcIMS. The site contains a wealth of parcel information as well as imagery and other local and national datasets.

    Volunteer Opportunities
    IMAGIN is a member driven organization.  We rely on the hard work and dedication of our membership to make the organization run.  Several of our committees need your help!  We have opportunities available on the following Committees:
    MEMBERSHIP: Goal: To increase the IMAGIN membership base through systematic recruiting and retention efforts.
    SERVICES AND BENEFITS COMMITTEE: Goal: To define, develop and deliver appropriate services and benefits for members in the most effective way possible.
    ANNUAL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE: Goal: To support the highest quality annual conference for members and other participants and attract a diverse cross section of public/private/non-profit organizations and individual members.
    PARTNERSHIPS COMMITTEE: Goal: To establish partnership relationships with other appropriate entities and thereby strengthen the organization, increase its visibility, and improve benefits for members.
    PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION COMMITTEE: Goal: To identify, recognize and celebrate successful individuals and programs in information systems.
    Spotlight on Supporting Organizations
    MSU RS&GIS Michigan State University Remote Sensing & GIS Research and Outreach Services RS&GIS provides multi-disciplinary service and outreach in geospatial technologies applied to human-environmental issues for the MSU campus, government agencies, and other public and private organizations.
