Map Gallery

The Map Gallery is presented each year at the IMAGIN Forum to highlight exceptional map design and to recognize map products of high caliber.
 

IMAGIN Map Gallery Specifications:

Category Awards and Definitions:

Cartographic Design:
   Awarded to the map that artistically employs the elements of
   cartography without compromising use and functionallity.  Maps will
   be judged on color selection, label placement and priority, overall
   aesthetic appearance, etc.

Data Integration:
   Awarded to the map that best incorporates data of different formats,
   various sources, and/or creative collection/extraction methods. 
   More than just overlay analysis, this award is for creating and
   combining layers that compliment each other in the map.

People's Choice - New Category Starting 2009
   Awarded to the map that receives the most votes by conference
   attendees.  Each attendee receives one blank ballot in their
   registration packet.

Best Interactive Online Map - New Category Starting 2009
   Awarded to the public website that most effectively presents GIS
   information via the internet.  The site should publically present locally-
   relevant geographic data or information for some or all of Michigan,
   improving Michigan access to geographic information networks. 
   Pre-registration is required.

 
Rules and Regulations
  • Each entry must be a map.  This is NOT a poster gallery.

  • To qualify for the Best Interactive Online Map, you must register online by April 17, 2010 and select the "Online Maps" category.  Your online site must also be publicly available.

  • All non-web maps will be considered in other categories.

  • Maps should not be mounted on foam core, but can be laminated.

  • General map size should be "E" size (34 inches x 44 inches).  Please indicate on application if otherwise.

 

Conference Proceedings

  • Maps are to be checked in at the conference registration table.

  • Award recipients will be announced at the awards lunch.  You do not need to be present to win.
